We're starting the school year off strong with our newest permanent lab member Miguel Mooney. Miguel completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Gonzaga University in 2021. After graduation he then worked at UCSD as a lab assistant studying how gene regulatory programs of lipid metabolic and inflammatory pathways are mechanistically coordinated in macrophages within the setting of various types of inflammation (whoa! 🤓). As a masters student in the microbiology program at SDSU, Miguel plans to study the dynamics of phage infection in microfluidic biofilms with hopes to apply this work to phage therapy.
The trend of having outdoorsy lab members continues with Miguel's hobbies including surfing🏄♂️, fishing 🎣, diving 🤿, jamming with friends, and sitting in hot tubs.
