We're over the Moon(ey) with our newest Masters Student in the lab!

We're starting the school year off strong with our newest permanent lab member Miguel Mooney. Miguel completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Gonzaga University in 2021. After graduation he then worked at UCSD as a lab assistant studying how gene regulatory programs of lipid metabolic and inflammatory pathways are mechanistically coordinated in macrophages within the setting of various types of inflammation (whoa! 🤓). As a masters student in the microbiology program at SDSU, Miguel plans to study the dynamics of phage infection in microfluidic biofilms with hopes to apply this work to phage therapy.

"I was going to make a microbiology joke but I decided to B. cereus 🦠." - Miguel

The trend of having outdoorsy lab members continues with Miguel's hobbies including surfing🏄‍♂️, fishing 🎣, diving 🤿, jamming with friends, and sitting in hot tubs.

Lab happy hour at the farm! 💩 (Phage hunting is not for the weak-stomached.)
