Luke, we have a third Canadian in the lab!

Please join us in welcoming our newest master's student, Lukeman Kharrat! Luke graduated with his BS in Biology and Genetics from Western University in London, ON, Canada in Spring 2022. He is now pursuing his master’s degree in Bioinformatics and Medical Informatics (BMI). From a very young age, Luke has always had a strong interest in computers (as evidenced by the photo below). When asked about his motivation to pursue BMI he responded, “My passion for computers, science, and technology led me to this path because it was the perfect combination of tech and science.”

Luke's super-secret classified code for success:

if (brain!=empty) {

keepCoding();

}

else{

orderCoffee();

}

Luke has been a great asset to the lab and is already designated as the go-to person for coding by Wai Hoe. So far, Luke has helped annotate and assemble phages for Nino and has also assembled a strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa for Tiffany. When he’s not too busy coding, Luke can be found helping Andrew with R and teaching Zimri Biopython. In his free time, Luke enjoys gaming 🎮 (League of Legends, Rocket League, Warzone), reading 📖, and sassing Tiffany. He also loves basketball and is a huge fan of the Toronto Raptors 🏀. Luke has also been known to bust some pretty impressive moves on the dance floor 🕺🏻, putting the rest of his lab mates to shame!
