Congratulations to the Class of 2024! Fresh from obtaining his Bachelor's degree in microbiology here at SDSU, we're here to introduce Wyman Chan as the newest Masters Student in the lab. Wyman has been an undergraduate in the lab since January 2023 and while we'll miss his excellent media making and plate pouring skills, we're glad he was bit by the microbiology bug (hah 🦠) and decided to continue phage research in our lab as a graduate student.
Having begun projects in E. coli phage isolation and characterization during his undergraduate research, Wyman is now interested in expanding his collection to include S. aureus and M. smegmatis phages. Later on in his Masters, he hopes to explore phage-biofilm interactions.
In his new role, Wyman recently spearheaded a trip to the Konyn Dairy Farm where he fearlessly led new rotation PhD students and masters students to collect environmental samples that are hopefully rich with phages.
In his free time Wyman enjoys playing pickleball with friends and travelling, particularly because he's only been to two states so far in America 🌎.
