The title was a bit of a stretch this time, but we're happy to introduce our two rotation PhD students for the Fall 2024 semester Wade Ingersoll and Ryan Bench.
Wade Ingersoll is a first year PhD student joining the JDP program after completing his undergraduate Biology degree at Humboldt State University in 2019. He's also gained some further experience as a research technician at Sonoran University studying the genomic effects of botanical compounds. Wade is rotating in the lab to learn a bit more about the world of phages and trying to isolate and characterize some novel phages of his own. In his free time (which will soon be a precious resource as a PhD student) Wade enjoys playing the guitar 🎸, going on walks, and rollerblading.
Ryan Bench joins us fresh from completing his Masters in Biological Sciences at CSU San Marcos. He previously received his bachelors in Biology from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2022. Ryan is more interested in the clinical aspect of phages, having a strong interest in phage therapy to combat antibiotic resistance. Despite the girls in lab comparing him to Ratatouille's (2007) hero Linguine (you be the judge of that), Ryan is quite the opposite. In his free time he's an outdoorsman and enjoys camping 🏕, hiking 🚶♂️, doing Jeep trails, and working on his Jeep.
A chef's coat is basically a lab coat right?
