We’d like to give a warm welcome to PhD student Johann Tailor. Johann is currently on his second lab rotation and is a DRI/CGS Doctoral Fellow. He earned his BS in Microbiology from California State University Long Beach in Spring 2022. During his undergrad, he worked as an NIH-funded BUILD Research Fellow, where he investigated the modulation of host immune response during HIV-1 Nef-mediated infection using CRISPR/Cas9. Johann is continuing his research in host-microbe interactions during his PhD, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of how pathogens modulate host response.

In his free time, Johann enjoys spending time outdoors hiking 🚶♂️ and exploring nature (working on his fitness!). He is also building his own personal library of non-fiction books 📚. Last but not least, Johann is a coffee enthusiast and enjoys trying different local blends from coffee shops around town ☕! We're excited to hear Johann's coffee recommendations for the lab, as many of us are coffee fiends ourselves!
